Sleepers

I didn't watch television for over 10 days. So when I get back and actually watch again, what is on? Michael Jackson. Still. Argh.

Today was a busy work-at-home day, with end of month billing stuff for me. I'm still not done, but it's closer anyway.

So here's a little bit of irony. There's a movie coming out in the not-too-distant future called "Amelia", starring Hillary Swank, about the life of Amelia Earhart, aviatrix. The production company originally hunted out three highly experienced women pilots who fly antique aircraft to give an air race sequence authenticity. But when the time came, the three women were filmed running to the aircraft, and then less experienced (in some cases) male pilots were given the actual sequence of even just taxiing the airplanes out. They hired these three female pilots to be in scenes where Earhart/Swank is giving a passionate speech about the importance of accepting "Aviatrix" as equals - then don't let the real female pilots even taxi the aircraft out. (The story came from a guy who was there on set.) I understand-I hear you have to watch out for those crazy women drivers...

Oh, that reminds me. Did you know that after WWII, Tuskegee Airmen fighter pilots had to give up their seats on the train ride home to German Prisoners of War, because the white Nazi POWs rated higher than black fighter pilots on our side?

Sorry, but stuff like that never ceases to amaze me...

Kaylee is enjoying her summer, except she's having trouble going to sleep at night. She's still worried about nightmares even though she hasn't had any in awhile, and she focuses on it so much that she psychs herself out over the whole thing. She hasn't learned how to control her thoughts/mind very well yet-something that is hard for most adults, too-so it drives her crazy, poor thing. In another burst of irony, I've been having nightmares lately again myself. I had two of them in the last week, one of which was pretty bad. Hmm. If I'm getting them instead of her, I'd be fine with that. As it is, it helps her to put on her music and read her devotions book before she goes to sleep. She's in there now holding her devotion book to her chest, fast asleep. I hope she's having sweet dreams...
