Countdown

I took Kaylee to Chuck E Cheese for lunch today, and she was content to play for an hour, "win" a bunch of tickets, and choose a pair of sunglasses that is a big long straw for a prize. Hard to explain, but the "frames" are just part of the straw, so the liquid goes all the way around before you drink it. I brought a book to read and had some bread sticks and a Diet Coke and was good to go. It was fairly quiet in there today, well, quiet for Chuck E Cheese anyway, and Kaylee didn't have to wait to play any of the games she wanted. So she enjoyed her second-to-last day of lunch-time, school-less freedom. :)

After lunch I further made her day by setting her up with a second fairy account. They are free, and she can create more fairies to play with that way, and she's had a blast with it. That's the most mileage we've ever gotten out of a free website thing thus far, for sure.

Kaylee also decided that she would like to do "Hot Shots" again this year, which is the cheerleading group. Tonight was the night they measured the kids for their new uniforms, and Kaylee was excited because they get new uniforms this year--black with pink and silver trim instead of the red, white and blue. The uniforms are also sleeveless this year, which Kaylee will probably like for much of it, but when they do these winter basketball games, they are already freezing even in the long sleeved ones. I guess we'll probably just have to put warmer stuff on over/under it for the trips to the games and back. At least she can still fit into her cheer shoes from last year. :)

So all in all, even though she had to hang up an awful lot of clean clothes today (her least favorite chore), Kaylee still had a most excellent day.

While Kaylee was at Cheer tonight, I had a board meeting. It was a very positive and productive meeting, with such things as an almost 33% increase in student enrollment this year! That's just fantastic news! This little school is growing, is currently bigger than at least one of the private schools I attended as a kid, and is fast approaching the size of some of the others. The only negative thing about the meeting was actually a positive thing too. There is a student whose home life had been...horrifying. This student is in a good place now, a safe place, and is doing well, which is all good, but I can not and will not understand how a person can do the things to children that some people do, especially their own child. I came home and looked at Kaylee and was glad to be distracted by talk of fairies and cheerleading and fudge pops.

While I was at the school, I went into Kaylee's 3rd grade classroom and took a picture of her little desk all set up with her name tag on it and her books on top of it. Her room is ready and waiting. :)

Kaylee got a present today from her Great-Grandma Snider. It's a fuzzy blanket with a picture of a kitten face on it, and Kaylee has been wearing it around the house tonight quite happily. That was sweet! And how lucky is Kaylee to have Two Great-Grandmas still here?
