It's All About The Girl

Kaylee is excited as the countdown towards School Out drifted to "one" today. She had half a day of school, or should I say "school" since it was counting down required days and not actually involving any work. :) They played games all day, and she came in second on the hundred yard dash. I picked her up at 11:30 and she joined us for lunch at Applebees.

While she was in school, I took the opportunity to get printer cartridges we needed from Staples and several other errands like that, ending up at Meijer for one main purpose: Dirt Pudding. Kaylee signed me up for a dessert for tomorrow's last day of school picnic, and she told me she wants Dirt Pudding with fake worms on it. So last night I pulled up some recipes for it, and today I went shopping for a pot and all the goodies to go in it. Here I thought it was just pudding and Oreo cookies crumbled up with gummy worms on top, but no! We have to get complicated on Laura and include powdered sugar, cool whip, butter, cream cheese, vanilla, etc. too. ;) It was also the first time I've ever taken a blender to Oreo cookies for that matter. When my flight was cancelled for this afternoon, we destroyed the kitchen making Dirt Pudding, and it turned out quite well if I may say so myself. We were left with quite a mess in the kitchen and one satisfied 8-year-old. That works.

The rest of the story was mostly at the store. The recipe just says "fills one pot", but doesn't say what size pot, and there are a LOT of different sizes of pots you know. So I got one regular and one big, trying to gauge how much mass would be in the ingredients list I had there. Then I needed some fake flowers to put in the pot, and I go to the fake flower aisle where it is Cleaned Out, I suppose from Memorial Day, and I'm left staring at one thin sprig of dark red something-or-others that will look sad in a big dark purple pot, purchasing an entire gravesite arrangement just to pick out a couple flowers, or eyeballing the two nice elderly ladies who held the white whatevers and hoping they would leave it behind. As you can see from the photo, they did, and I snagged it and ran, the last fake flower in Meijer.

Oh, one more thing. We had two bowls going, one with a pudding mixture and one with a cream cheese mixture, and when it came time to combine everything, Kaylee had trouble, so I helped out. She paused and said "You're good at this Mommy." Isn't it grand when things can be so simple in life? :) She also said "Let's take a picture of this, and you can put it on your blog!" Okay, done...

When we finished up, Kaylee was invited out for ice cream by Grandma & Grandpa, and she wanted to run next door and tell them she was still kind of full from lunch but wanted to go in a little bit. So she tosses over her shoulder at me "I'll B R B, Mom." BRB? My kid just said "BRB". That stands for "Be Right Back" in "chat" internet lingo for lack of a better explanation. I've quit wondering where she's heard some of that at this point. (No, she does not chat on the internet or have a cell phone or text or anything.)

Kaylee chowed down on Cake Batter Ice Cream with Grandma and Grandpa, then it was time to go to ballet and tap, then come home and play a little "Disney Fairies" on the computer for awhile. It's a good day for Miss Kay. In fact, as she danced out the door, when she found out my flight was cancelled and we were going to stay home and make the dirt pudding right then, she exclaimed "This IS the Best Day Ever!"
