Skating By

Steve and Kaylee had a nice camp-out in the front room last night. He got her up at 2 a.m., and they stayed up and watched "Barbie and the Island Princess" on a pulled-out guest bed in the front room, sang Karaoke along with the dvd as one of the special 'features', laughed and laughed, and had a great time until Kaylee finally passed out again sometime around 5 a.m. As you could guess, we all slept in a bit this morning, and then we meandered our way out to the Kokomo airport for awhile. Steve worked on a friend's laptop and waited for a new guy to come out and talk about flight training, and I taught Kaylee how to inline roller skate.

That was kind of funny. She did a good job, and by the time we left today she was moving along pretty well. We started off with me pulling her along and then telling her when to stop, to get her used to her "brakes". From there it was how to push off and get some speed going, control, etc. At the end I was showing her how she was so much faster when I held onto one of her hands than when she was on her own and how much of it was confidence, so she said "Okay Mom, you run by me and I'll just go for it, if you'll catch me." Well, no pressure there. ;) So I jogged next to her, back and forth, hands right there to make a fast grab while she went as fast as she could on the skates, and several times I'd have to rescue her from hitting the concrete at the last second. At one point I started laughing and I told her that this was an awful lot like flight instructing--you let somebody go as far as they can so they can learn to do it themselves, hands hovering but not touching, and then a lot of times you have to grab it at the last second to prevent them from hitting the concrete. She said "You have to balance the plane too, right?" Well, yeah, actually you do, even if it isn't wheels strapped to your feet. She was a little irritated, because she's still never fallen off of her bicycle and she expected to do the same with skates and it didn't happen. Instead, she fell on her rear end a couple of times, once with a couple of tears, and onto her knees once, just prior to us getting the kneepads on. But like I said, by the time we left, she was getting pretty smooth at it. She had a lot of fun, got some exercise in, enjoyed a little bit of the big hangar that had space to ride in now that the big plane is gone on a trip, and enjoyed some of the blue skies and sunshine we had today too.

We stopped at Steak and Shake on the way home for the worst service we've ever gotten there. We had to pull forward and wait 6 minutes, which, okay, that happens. They repeated our order or had us repeat it piece by piece several times, having difficulty, which also happens. But we get home with our food to find that most of it was all wrong, even the little details, even after they specifically asked about and repeated them back to us. Steve's chili didn't have what it was supposed to on it, my burger was the totally wrong kind, his burger was plain instead of loaded, etc. The only thing they got right was the two shakes those two got. So for $21, we got a "Surprise" meal that took forever. Ah, well, hopefully it was "training day". ;)

I took pictures today, and I found out today I could get back into my websites. Last week I learned that our one server with the sma angels sites on it was totally, completely, no more room at the inn, full. Kaylee's site is on that server too, so I was unable to make any changes or additions to any of those sites. I purchased additional space and was waiting to hear that I was good to go-just tried it today and I'm back in "business", with nary a glitch. Wheew. Anyway, so while I was at it, I moved Kaylee's Cheerleading photos back to her own site, and added in a few more photos at the bottom half of the page from the end of last month too.

I desperately needed to go to the store tonight, though it's getting late. If I didn't, we were down to Ramen noodles and Diet Mt. Dew, and I don't think that'll work for Kaylee's school lunch tomorrow. So I went, and it was amazing, but everything I needed, and I mean everything, was on big-time sale. All of Kaylee's favorite lunch foods, snacks, dinners, all of it. I ended up with 16 bags of groceries, and only ended up purchasing one item that wasn't on sale. I thought that was pretty wild. And helpful. I did get a bit of a surprise though. I was in the aisle minding my own business figuring out if it was cheaper to get the case of Diet Coke or the 3 for $10 twelve-packs, when this woman rounded the corner, almost bumping into me, yelling "Hey, *****!" I jumped and spun around, and it was just a woman on a cellphone, who kept walking, and now was laughing into her phone about how she made this lady at the store jump. Yes, funny...

On to tomorrow!
