In the Depressing Files, the Ferry company that helped save people's lives on the Hudson River after the US Airways 1549 made an emergency ditching is now probably preparing a lawsuit against US Airways. Why? Because they are frustrated that they aren't getting enough recognition from US Airways for their role in the rescues, and to recuperate their costs from the rescue. I'm...I'm not even going to comment any further.
Awhile ago on the news, there was video footage of a huge fight that broke out at a highschool (I don't remember where) basketball game. Apparently a ref made a call, somebody got mad, a punch was thrown, and the stands emptied and arms were waving and people were pushing, punching, pulling, etc. It's not funny at all. The only commentary I ever heard on it was serious, about the state of our schools, kids today, etc. But one thing did kind of hit my "you have a weird sense of humor" button anyway: all these guys were trying to fight with one hand holding up their pants. The gangsta (or wannabe) style of having their pants loose and below their hips with their boxers sticking out of the top meant that drawers were dropping all over the place, people would try to run and trip on their own pants, they were hauling pants up with one arm and swinging with the other, and I'm sorry, but that was just funny. I decided that perhaps that dumb fashion fetish just might have some merit after all. It's pretty hard to fight with your pants around your ankles. World peace attained by overly baggy and ill-fitting clothing. We might be on to something here...
I had another news story that wasn't funny at all
that I can't get out of my head, but when I got home from lunch, I saw this in my in-laws' garden, and suddenly I didn't feel like talking or thinking about anything ugly. When I have t-shirts, sunshine, birds, and the first flowers of spring, what can I do but relax and enjoy it for awhile? When Kaylee came home from school, she went right over there, touched the flowers, sat on the ground by them, smelled them, and even "helped" a couple of the closed ones get a little more opened up. She is happy to see Spring too, even if it is killing her sinuses.I enjoyed the "quotes of the day" that came in today, too:
"All growth is a leap in the dark, a spontaneous, unpremeditated act without benefit of experience." ~Henry Miller
"There never was a winner, who wasn't a beginner." ~Denis Waitley
"I learned...that one can never go back, that one should not ever try to go back--that the essence of life is going forward. Life is really a One Way Street." ~Agatha Christie
"The few who do are the envy of the many who only watch." ~Jim Rohn
