Today arrived with more spitting snow and below freezing temperatures. Gotta love February! (We made it the shortest month of the year for good reason, I'd say.) My flight in the morning was cancelled, so we just relaxed at home and got some stuff ready for the weekend, before heading down to Noblesville in the early afternoon. We went to a friends' house, and they had a PlayStation "Rock Band" party. Kaylee got to hang out with Maggie and Hannah for an entire evening, and the rest of us took turns playing in the "band". It was the first time I've played anything like that, so I wouldn't say I took to it like a teenager, but it was fun and interesting to watch. My only complaint is the drums. They sound like sticks banging very loudly on a hard surface, and they can get pretty irritating and overshadow the entire song. Other than that, when done well, it actually sounds pretty good. There are all sorts of songs, for people of all preferences. Oh, there was one young man who came who did all four parts of the band, each one on "expert" level, and before he left he did the singing and the guitar lead at the same time. That was pretty impressive to watch his fingers flying like that, and how he could dip microphones and "head bang" while keeping track of where he was is beyond me. I'm still sitting there in my head going "red! blue! red! red & blue! yellow! green! Darn, missed it!" :)
When we left there that evening, we went on down to Indianapolis. We had to be at the Convention Center bright and early in the morning, and if you're late you don't get to compete in the show. Last year we stayed down there in a hotel attached to the convention center, but that's pretty pricey, so we stayed farther away this time, and we still had to be up at 6 something in the morning to get there in time. The room was nice, and Kaylee just loves hotels-and it doesn't matter how big or small. There was only one problem. There was not a single fan in the room-no bathroom fan, nothing, so it was Drop Dead Quiet in the room. Kaylee and I can't sleep well to stuff on (like tv), and Steve can't sleep to stuff off, and NONE of us sleep well to dead silence. But Kaylee and I ended up doing better than Steve. It was so quiet in that room I could hear the squeaky wheels in my brain turning, I could hear myself swallow and breathe and my heart beating, and Kaylee kept me awake for a long time with big old heavy breathing. Mental note to self-bring own fan or something next time? ;)
