Kaylee and I got home, and Nathan said he was ready to go to Muncie in about an hour, so I took Kaylee over to Glenndale to hang out with her DS and her dad while I then ran out to Kokomo to take a semi-quick flight. I got my weather and filed my flight plans on the phone the old fashioned way, and I think my first thought was "I've seen better weather." We got some snow, the wind was blowing it around fairly well, the visibilities were around a mile to a mile and a half, the clouds were lowish and there was icing. That reminds me, I saw three cars involved in accidents on the slick roads between airports, and I fishtailed twice myself. I'll say it again, I love my car, but it is definitely a great sled. I can't accelerate from a stop-either I get no traction and go nowhere, or my rear end swings out from under me. So I have to creep forward enough to get some momentum if I can, and then slowly coast to a decent speed without any real acceleration. It's sort of difficult if you try to turn from a full stop, particularly if you have to hurry any for oncoming traffic. I can't. It annoys people behind me, so I may put a bumper sticker on that says "Trust me, I don't like going this slow either!" :) Anyway, once we were ready to go we found out the circumstances worked after all that we could go tomorrow morning when it should be more pleasant weather, so that's what we decided to do. Not a bad call since I came home and saw a "1/2 mile and freezing fog" possibility on the weather where it wasn't before...
I left the airport and went to Staples to pick up some stuff, and then wandered my way over to the Fed Ex facility where I had to sit for 30 minutes in the parking lot and wait for my 'driver' to get back. No problem, I listened to music and relaxed, and when I went in ten minutes early he had just arrived, and the lady at the counter had my box with the word "Verizon" on the side, and she asked to see my ID which I happily showed her, and then she frowned. "Do you have anything on you that shows that you are Camel-Lot?" I pause. "No, not on me." She gets a funny look on her face. "I can't give you this package, it doesn't have your name on it, it has Camel-Lot on it." I laugh and look at her and she looks back at me and I look at her and finally she says "Hey Tom! Do you know this lady?" It's the delivery guy. He looks at me and says "No." I piped up and said "You deliver out to Glenndale Airport all the time, right?" He said "Yes, but I've not seen you out there." I said "Well, I've seen you." The lady comes back with "This doesn't say Glenndale, it says Camel-Lot and I can't give her this package without confirmation it's going to the right person." NOW he gets it, and the driver says "Well, it WAS at Glenndale that I delivered it and she's wearing a Glenndale coat and shirt, and you know, I HAVE seen her out there before." Another driver comes up and says "Hi there, I've seen you at Glenndale before too!" and winks and shrugs at me. The counter lady laughs as I wave at the two and say "Hey, guys, it was SO good to see you again!" Then I turned to her and pointed at the box and said (lightly, not snottily) "That's my new cell phone and I want it!" She gave it to me. :)
By the time I got home it was dark, very cold, and very slick. I was glad to be home, and actually kind of tired from concentrating on driving for the last hour plus on the back roads. Kaylee is at Cheer, my new phone is charging up as we speak, and we're all finally home, warm and dry.
This is what my phone looks like, it's called the LG Voyager. It'll probably do everything I want except make good phone calls, but I'm going to enjoy it. ;) Oh, and do you know cellphone cameras these days have 2.0 to 3.2 megapixel cameras in them? The digital Sony I used for a long time was 2 mp, and worked just fine except in low light. That's wild...
