We slept in this morning, all of us. I wasn't out and about until after 9 a.m. this time. I went with Nathan in his car, and got all the way up to the warbird parking when I realized I'd left my wrist band at the trailer. Not good. After an unsuccessful attempt to wrangle a band out of the admissions people, I ended up buying a day pass to get in for breakfast. Expensive breakfast. We met up with Steve and Chuck and ate in the shade of a tent with a breeze, and didn't want to leave. A few of us went around to the display booth hangars while Nathan went off to do his flight briefing for the warbird show he's in today. Today at noon there was supposed to be a photo at Aeroshell Square of the largest gathering of women pilots in one place. I debated on going or not going, and finally decided that since I was out there anyway, I'd go. I went up to the square's information booth and asked them where it was-they said in front of that huge airplane over there, can't miss it. I walked over there, and there was nobody there at all, at least not for that. So I left. Decision made. Found out later I had been misinformed and it was done at 10:30 instead. Que Sera Sera. :)
In one of the hangars, a lady came up to us with a sticker for the Commemorative Air Force, and told us the president of the CAF would be walking around, and if he spotted you wearing a sticker you'd have a one in five chance of winning a ride in a P-51 Mustang. We kind of grinned at each other. Chuck tried to give his sticker to Jamie, who said "I ride in a Mustang all the time." Not that I'd turn it down again anyway, personally...
After a bit more sweating, we took the golf cart and came on home, picked up the girls from Judy, and came back to the trailer so the kids could play over here for awhile.
Later it got nice. I'm sitting under an awning with a cold beverage and a decent breeze, with a fan hooked up and blowing right on me anyway, laptop on my lap, and a good internet connection while everyone else in the world is on the flight line. There are storms around us but not on us, and a cold front just moved through with a big puff of air and a cold breeze. Nathan flew in the warbirds show this evening, and I got out my telephoto lens and tried to take a couple of pictures from the campsite of various airplanes and formations and such. We'll see how they turn out, but really I'm too far away even with my big lens to get anything too good.
We were going to go to a fish fry over at the seaplane base for dinner, but they start serving at 5 pm and Nathan didn't get back on the ground until 6:30 p.m., so we decided to head to Kodiak Jack's instead. One night I had steak, one night I had crab, tonight I went for pecan-encrusted walleye. There are certainly enough excellent choices. :) We came back and had a fire until bed time.
Kaylee is barefoot and dirty and doing just fine. When I hose her off, the water is just filthy. Running on a big tall grass hill, dirt and gravel and grass roads, lots of dust from the lack of rainfall here...she's having a blast...
