Steve, not being content not working while we're gone, (okay, really just making me happy) did a little computer networking and hooked up a bridge out here so that basically we are our own wireless 'tower'. What this means is that instead of driving a golf cart to one of the 'boxes on a pole' out there to get a good internet connection once a day like last year, I am sitting in the same room as the 'box', and I have perfect connectivity and a smoking fast connection. What's even funnier is that people around us are picking up our network because it's the strong one for this location, and we can see who all is using it. I'm fine with them using it until they bog us down, at which point we'll boot people off and they can go back to the EAA wireless. ;) It's good to have a handy fellow along with you on trips like this. ;)
It was almost lunch time, and Maggie came over to our trailer for awhile and Kaylee and Maggie played most of the day. They did bubbles, played 'house', all sorts of things, and had a great time. Steve also put up a little pop-up tent for them to play in, and they got a lot of mileage out of that one.
Meanwhile, I spent most of the day sitting outside in the cool temps with the light breeze and the bright blue sky in the shade of my awning with a beverage in one hand and a book in the other. I could hear various engines going over, from the whine of a jet to the rumble of a radial, and I would find myself smiling quite contentedly at the whole scenario. It
For dinner tonight we hit Kodiak Jack's, which is a steakhouse and seafood place. Oh, they're good. Kaylee and Maggie split an order of King Crab Legs, and that's what Steve and I had too. Except we didn't split one, we wanted our own. SO good. There were "only" 14 of us at dinner tonight, but we still had a pretty good crowd. Afterwards we stopped at Wal-Mart to pick up a fan and some batteries. I was sitting in the car waiting for Steve and Kaylee to come out, when I glanced up and saw a Glenndale shirt going by. I looked back down, then did a double-take. Sure enough, that WAS a Glenndale shirt at Oshkosh, and it wasn't on someone I knew. I saw his spouse then and recognized them as folks from Chuck's camp site, but for a second there it threw me. :)
We all came back and went to Chuck's camp site, where the kids played tag in the dark and the adults lit a birthday cake and sang Happy Birthday to Chuck. His 17th anniversary of his 50th birthday. :) Kaylee climbed up The Hill, but they have become party poopers around here and now have signs up stating "Warning: No Sliding Down Hill". Well, phooey on them. Liability Schmiability. Anyway, she climbed up there to look around, and then we mosied back over to Chuck's and hung out for awhile until it was time to come back and put kids in bed, do something on Nathan's bus, make blog entries, and all that fun stuff.
Not a bad way to spend Day Two at Oshkosh. :)
