The day started with questionable weather. When I left the house, it was gray and overcast, which is not the best possible weather for an airport event. I had to stop at the store and pick up a ton of drinks on the way, and as I was walking out of the store to my car, the sky opened and it just started dumping rain. I was soaked in seconds. I was also wearing heeled sandals, and when they got wet they got slippery, which left me walking like someone who can't walk in heels and really should practice at home prior to going in public. ;) But I went barefoot for awhile instead while they dried out, and that helped--at least until my feet got tired from standing.
The event was supposed to start at 11 am, and at 11 am the rain was still just dumping, and we just had our own crew there and a couple others, standing there watching the rain pour. Soon enough though, the cell passed through, the sun broke through, and the people started coming. We ended up over 70 people there for sure. Chuck counted 60, then saw another batch walking up, and quit counting, and we had a few more rounds of people come after that.

The airport manager and a couple of board members made it over, several hangar owners out there, and quite a few local pilots. I spoke to several people interested in regular flight lessons and a couple people interested in warbird training. I set up a table with brochures, business cards and flyers, and we had an easel that Chuck made that had a big aerobatics poster on it Pam made up. Justin cooked burgers and hot dogs non-stop for several hours, and fortunately enough people brought side dishes and dessert that we had enough food. There wasn't a lot of actual flying because of the winds/weather, but it was a good day to hang out and talk and that's what a lot of them did. It was a good introduction to putting a friendlier face on Kokomo Airport, and it was a busy, full, but fun day.
Kaylee played with Jamie and Gwenie, rode her bike and scooter, and generally ran herself into tiredness. I'll bet she sleeps well tonight! For that matter, I bet Steve and I sleep well tonight too...
After everything got cleaned up, several of us went to dinner before calling it an evening.
I did take a few photos, but not when we had the most people there, and I'm not sure why. Got busy, I guess. Anyway, you can see
the few I took here. For now I'm fighting off the sleepies again, yawning all over while I'm typing this. Like I said, a busy day!
