Mothers and their Days

Kaylee presented me with a card and a dozen red roses and lots of hugs and kisses. I think she missed me yesterday, because she spent most of the morning hugging me, snuggling, just laying on me and talking. Not a bad way to start off Mother's Day! I'd also like to thank my mom on this Mother's Day, for being one of the smartest, strongest women I know. I am honored to be your daughter. :)

One last thing about Mother's Day. This is one of the tougher days for a lot of people out there, and I just want to send a nod their way too. If your child dies, then to the rest of the world you no longer qualify as a mother; but we know differently. A mother is born when they realize they are carrying life, and no matter what, the woman is forever changed. Just because the child isn't here to hand them a card doesn't make them any less of a mother. I will always remember the first Mother's Day after Devon and Sidney had died, before Kaylee came along. I was trying to pretend like the day didn't matter, until Steve presented me with two small gifts and a card. The day matters. I've got many of the ladies-the moms-in the grief group on my mind today.

As for the rest of the day, well, a lot of it went rather quickly for me, considering I passed out for hours. I was just sitting there, perfectly fine on the couch, and suddenly the sleepies descended with a vengeance, apparently a catch-up from yesterday when I should have been tired and wasn't. I put my head down on the arm of the couch "just for a minute", and woke up hours later with the kitchen TV on a cartoon, the living room TV on crab fishing, half of another wall being painted next to me, lights on all over, Steve and Kaylee talking, and other noises and activities. I can not believe I slept through all that. Normally I need a dark room, all quiet, no distractions, and a good hour to fall asleep at night. That was more a "crash" than a nap. Steve and Kaylee got the wall behind our computer desk painted all the way to the last bookshelf though, and it looks good!

We cleaned up a few things, and then Steve cooked up steaks, I cooked some peas, and Richard made some baked potatoes, and we had a dinner celebrating Richard's birthday and Mother's Day. Delicious!

It was some time after dinner that I realized our internet was down, and it stayed down for several hours, several reboots, and several attempts at trying to figure out the problem. Finally Steve broke down and called Comcast on the phone, and they spent a good 20 minutes or more working on it together. The situation ended up resolved, we got back online, but more shocking than that, the lady on the other end of the phone was very patient and helpful and did a good enough job of customer service that when she asked if Steve would do an online phone survey of their interaction, he actually agreed so he could give her a 5 out of 5. That's worthy of note on several levels. ;)

I have a few things to do before bed, so I'll sign off and be productive for awhile...
