The Last Day

Today was Kaylee's last day of school as a First Grader. Their day was a "Field Day", with a chapel, games, activities and a picnic. Parents were invited to the whole day, but I started with the picnic at noon and stayed for the rest of the games and activities, until about 3 pm.

First, I spent the morning running errands then going out to Glenndale. It was Friday lunch day, and Nathan flew the T-6 in with Jamie, which was a lovely sight and sound. :) I got some phone calls returned, some emails done, and I only had about 2 hours before it was time to go to Kaylee's school.

As soon as she saw me, she raced across the grass, she was so excited I was there. We had a hot dog and brownies on the picnic table with her teacher, outside, and then the games started up. There were 12 teams of kids. Kaylee's team came in 6th place, which really wasn't bad since they had a younger batch of kids than many of the teams. They started the 'prizes' from the last place up, so every time her group wasn't called, I cheered. ;) Her team was "Irezona", because her team captain did a report on Ireland and her co-captian did a report on Arizona. So they combined it for the name. :) They did an obstacle course on the playground, tagging the next person on the team to go through the course. At the end they had to all carry one child off the playground and to the edge. Only one child that I saw got dropped-everyone let go at the same time when they got to the end. Oops! Kaylee went really fast on the obstacle course-she did a good job. They did a balloon relay too, and here she dropped her balloon, the wind took it, and she had to chase it down. Her team lost that one, but at least someone on the other team did the same thing. ;) That contest ended with the last kids having to sit on the balloon and pop them. Whoever popped their balloon first won. I jumped every single time someone popped their balloon, and there were 24 balloons popped. I have never done well with loud or sharp or surprising noises. I can KNOW it's coming and I will still jump. Anyway. They did a soccer kicking contest, and Kaylee got 2 out of 3 of her balls in the net. A shoe-kicking contest, to see how far you could kick. That one seemed to be for the older kids only. Anyway, stuff like that. I took a few pictures, but I don't know if they've turned out or not, and I think it's too late to work on them now. But she had a blast, and came home slightly sunburned, happy, with a stained t-shirt and popsicle lips.

I took her out to Glenndale with me for awhile, where I took the 172 down to Sheridan while she stayed on the ground and waited with her dad. Hung out for a few, and then I took her home where she got out the sprinkler, put on a swimsuit, and played in the back yard in the water until the thunderstorms started rolling in. It's a tradition of sorts. :)

We ended up having several tornadoes spotted around our area tonight, but nothing that actually came very close to us. We certainly got hit with a lot of wind and rain and some hail too though, and Glenndale is back to Lake Glenndale, unfortunately.

By the way, Steve found great pleasure in telling me that a producer from Hollywood called and is doing something on UFO Hunters and wants to hire me to fly them around coming up soon here. :O

Well, tomorrow morning we leave for Kansas, so I will talk to you when we get back...
