Nathan is still winging his way home, very very slowly, from Massachusetts. If I hadn't so recently been sick, I'd probably be slowly winging my way home, but my stamina is a little low right now, and a 7-8 hour flight might not be the best plan for me JUST yet. I'm SO much better, but still not quite myself, and when one is taking long trips or dealing with less than ideal weather, it is wise to be in good physical shape. :)
Our third wall in our living room is finally almost fully painted! We hired a friend to come in and do it, so right now I am sitting on our couch in the middle of our living room (instead of back against the wall) quite close to our TV. Steve says this has created a desire for him to get a bigger TV. I told him to suppress the desire, we're doing just fine with our tv right now. ;)
I went to the mall today, because it was time to get my eyebrows done, I needed to get a couple small items, and I wanted to set up a hair appointment. So my first stop was my eyebrows. I went to this girl who has a chair sitting in the middle of the mall. It's an old Indian practice of using thread in order to pluck eyebrows. Not wax, not tweezers...thread. I'm sure I mentioned it the last time I did it. What I didn't remember was how painful it was. See, I haven't had my eyebrows done in...months. But they never did really grow back that bad, so I haven't been in a hurry. It's been a very long time, as in since before Christmas, and when I went today, all I kept thinking was that it felt like someone was sawing my eyebrows. That wasn't TOO bad, but then she said "Do you do your upper lip?" I said "I never have." She said "You should." Oh really?? Okay, well...why not. Go for it. So she starts in on my upper lip, and I swear to you I about came out of that chair in the middle of the mall. That HURT. I have tears Running down my cheeks, not because I'm literally crying, but because of the pain response. And then I start sneezing my head off. Try pulling a little hair or two right under or at your nose and see what happens. She wiped the make-up off around my mouth, under my nose, all long my lip and chin and over and under my eyebrows and "threaded" me to death. I was in Real, Serious, Actual Pain. And my pain tolerance is really quite high. It took her forever to finish, and by the time she did I was just glad to be done. She said "Would you like me to do your cheeks?" I said "No! I gotta go." She said "You have very light hair, not thick or dark, but lots of fine peach fuzz. Feel how smooth your upper lip/chin is now???" Yes, I'm sure I'll feel how smooth that is once I regain FEELING in my FACE again. :O I have to admit, it was quite effective. But man it did not feel good, and I walked out of there with red above and below my eyebrows and red around my mouth from my upper lip to my chin. If faded in about 30 minutes, but it still feels odd to me to the touch.
Naturally I met the guys at Applebees looking like that. I didn't have time to go home and put my makeup back on. ;) Most said they didn't notice, but one honest fellow said "I just thought it was a bad make-up job." Well, basically, at this point, yes. ;) By the time lunch was over the red had faded and I was feeling much...smoother. But I'm not sure I'll be able to psych myself up to do that again. Did I mention that HURT?? Is blond "peach fuzz" really THAT bad?? Whoever said women are the weaker sex, I'd like to sit them in that chair and have their facial hair removed in that fashion!
Kaylee did a great job today. She came home from school, and she had to do her math homework and her spelling homework. Then she had to do her "Book in a Bag", which consists of reading Four books, doing Three activities, and writing in a journal. She got all THAT done, and then she had to memorize two verses for Awanas. She did all that from 4-6 p.m. She's such a good girl...
Well, I'll post one last thing and then it's a sign-off. 'Night!
