The day didn't end up as originally planned, but it worked out nicely. :) Chuck found a door for his Suburban, so he and Steve drove up past Logansport to pick it up this morning. I worked at home through the morning, and then headed out for an early lunch and a trip to Huntington with Nathan in the Baron to go check on the T-6. They have several parts of the tail and the round cowling all painted up, and man does that look sharp. I can't wait to see it all together.
It wasn't unnaturally windy today, but it was Weird windy-we had a bit of a ride coming in to land at Huntington thanks to the crosswind burbling across the trees. It was enough that we both commented on it being a little exciting, even though the winds were only 60 degrees off at 14 knots. Wind is weird that way sometimes.
On our way home, we decided to pay a visit to Glenndale, and we did a little runway check for Steve and Chuck. :)
There was an airplane coming in to land at Kokomo when we were, and he kept calling in "Kokomo Traffic, Part 65, this is a Cessna 172, Nxxxx, blah blah", which is just a weird way to talk on the radio. When we announced we were entering the pattern, he came on and said all that, and said he was on a 6 mile final on an instrument approach. Nathan looked at me and said "So, was that his way of telling us he has the right of way?" I said "I believe it was, but I also believe he's wrong." We kept coming, he was way out there, and in fact we were down and halfway back to the hangar and he was still a mile out. Anyway, he made those weird radio calls several more times, so on our last transmission, Nathan says "Kokomo Traffic, Part 91, this is a Baron N9255S, clear all runways at Kokomo." Silence. We never heard another radio call from the plane. He obviously got Nathan's point.
When I got down, it was time to go get Kaylee, so I picked her up from school where she had finished a Valentine's Day party. I took her to run a couple of errands before we came home and hung out. She was supposed to go to Gymnastics right after school, but she has been run so hard lately, yesterday in particular, and she's fighting off something. She's tired, her head is stuffy, and her teacher said she's been laying her head on her desk at school these last couple of days. So I made the command decision to stay home today, and we relaxed together, until Steve came home and we all went out to dinner together. Because it is Valentine's Day, all the restaurants are booked up for hours-so I'd called and just stuck our names in a list. We walked in and were seated at a table within 3 minutes--the wait was otherwise over an hour, with the steak houses having a 2 hour wait. I had a lovely salmon dinner and we all split a chocolate dessert. It was quite tasty. :)
A different, but good Valentine's Day.
