Weekend Update

(Reminds me of Saturday Night Live. :))

The rain put a halt to Steve's grand plans of leaf removal, so it's been a quiet day inside. Dishes, reading and Scooby Doo.

When we had company over Friday, Kaylee decided she wasn't sure she liked them using "her" bathroom, so she made the following sign and taped it to her bathroom door. Cracked us all up. I particularly enjoyed the drawing of the toilet under the words "Out of Urder". (Of course the company continued to use that restroom and she was fine with it, she wasn't being rude, just funny.) I can't help it, I love that toilet bowl. LOL

I have the videos up on Kaylee's site from today at church, but be warned that anyone on dial-up probably ought to have something else to do for a very long time if you try to load them. It takes awhile to load even on my cable. They make me smile because she takes it very seriously, and she's focusing and half frowning the whole time she's singing.

My mom has been transcribing the diaries/journals of her mother, and putting them on the computer to have safe and to hand down. She's scanning in the originals, and then typing out the words into Word documents. Today she sent me Grandma's 1973 diary. All the entries in it are particularly brief because there was only a small space in between lines. I found it pretty interesting to read the differences in how people journal today vs. 1973. I am apparently much sappier and more verbose than my grandmother. :) But keeping in mind that Grandma mostly wrote facts and things they did, almost never discussed emotion, and is blunt enough that she rarely hands out compliments, and in fact had no problem telling me I was an ugly baby, ;), this one line from her is actually rather effusive praise. It's also me thumbing my nose at you and saying "See, I was too!"

Monday, May 14, 1973

Patty, Jerry & Laurie came. I put off washing as they have to be home by 2: tomorrow. Laurie an awfully good girl.

Don't take that "ugly" thing the wrong way, it didn't hurt my feelings; besides, she said I grew out of the ugly when I got more hair finally. ;)

There are little snippets in there about Pastor and Mrs. Young (they've known my mom since she was a kid, and of course me since I was born), about the baby shower they had for her, about Stephanie being born. There are also a few lines about the anniversary of her son's death, about the murder of my father, and about President Nixon's inauguration and how tomatoes and bottles were thrown at his car during the parade. 1973 was quite the year, and it's odd and interesting to read it in little one-liners day to day...
