Couldn't wake up this morning, and when I finally did, I had a swollen right eye. The fluid under my skin had moved into my eye socket, which was a little creepy.
Flew the Baron over to Muncie with Steve and Chuck to pick up Nathan and have lunch, picked up Kaylee from school, headed back out to Glenndale for a flight lesson that ended up postponing until next week. Started to finally feel better at some point late afternoon and into evening, as swelling went down and the heat cooled off and I quit feeling either in desperate need of a nap or some medicine.
Kaylee and I are working on addition flash cards, and she's getting a little faster. I've taught her a couple of tricks to be able to add faster to hopefully win at "Around the World". In just two practice sessions at home she's already more than doubled her speed, so this is good. Hopefully she'll have a chance to at least advance a desk or two in the game. The game is played where one child stands next to another child's desk, and the teacher whips out a flash card. Whoever answers first correctly moves to the next desk, and the goal is to get "around the world". Kaylee hasn't won a challenge yet, and I didn't even know they were doing that, so I hadn't been practicing with her. But now we'll see how it goes as we keep practicing. :)
Starting tomorrow, Kaylee's school is going to be doing Fire Drills, Tornado Drills, and Lock-Down Drills. The sound of screeching brakes is me saying "Lock-down drills??" I had to ask Kaylee what that meant, and her response was "You know, so if somebody robbed a bank and then came to the school to rob it, they would lock down the school so the robber couldn't get in." Oh wow. Growing up we had fire drills and tornado drills, but that's quite the ode to society that my first grader has to do Lock-Down Drills in case of criminals (or more likely but not said to them, in case of in-school shooting issues). Sad. Of course tonight at 9:30 pm Kaylee came out of her room a little upset, because she'd been imagining bad things happening with fire, tornadoes, and criminals. *sigh*...
