Tuesday

Let's see. I still couldn't get myself up this morning-I took Kaylee to school in my pajamas! I didn't get out of the car though, so I don't think anybody caught me. ;)

Took Kaylee to lunch with us at Culvers, and then she and I headed to Kokomo Airport. We flew the C-172 RG over to Sheridan. It was a bumpy day, and for some reason she felt a little nervous. About halfway there, she asked me if I'd do a big bump. She said she was scared, but wanted to. So I did a tiny 'bump'. She squealed and her eyes got big. About 5 miles later, she grabs my hand, hugs my arm, looks up at me and says "Do it again Mommy. Do a big one." So I did a bigger one, floated her off her seat a bit, and she screeched and clutched me. A few minutes later, it was "Do it again mommy!" So I ended up doing "bumps" all the rest of the way there. But the girl who has actually landed a plane a couple of times (with verbal, throttle and rudder help, of course!) said "I don't want to touch it, what if I crash us?" Oookay. I told her that I wouldn't let her crash us, that in fact she would not be able to get past me to crash us no matter what she did. She still let me do all the work. Kind of odd for her to 1) be nervous about turbulence-usually she's thrilled with the stuff and 2) to be nervous about flying it herself-since when? At least she didn't talk about feeling sick this time.

Anyway, we landed at Sheridan, and I picked up the regular C-172 and we flew it home to Kokomo. On our way down to Sheridan, we flew over Glenndale down 18 for a...runway check for deer, yeah, that's it, and on our way home to Kokomo, we flew over Glenndale down 36 to... check for water on the field. Somehow passes are just not as impressive in C-172s. ;) But on our last pass, Kaylee made the radio call for me. "Glenndale traffic, Cessna 2732L on Final for 36, Glenndale." After we blew (cough cough) by, she asked if she could say something on the radio, and I said sure. Her contribution to the moment? She says over the airwaves a firm and excited "Oh yeah, baby!" LOLOL Maybe she IS my child after all. ;)

She also saw Nathan take off in the Baron, and her comment when he rotated was "Yeah, that's what I'm talking about, that's how it's done." My head swiveled on my neck as I stared at her, trying to figure out where THAT came from! I think Nathan paid her to say that. ;)

She also graded my landing. I had a downright pretty one back into Kokomo, couldn't hardly feel the wheels touch, and she clapped and said "Very nice job, Mommy!" Thank you dear. Maybe she'll remember that for the next "who lands better honey, me or your mommy?" conversation. ;)

I voted today in the primaries for city mayor. The problem is, if one guy gets in, he's going to be very very bad for us at the airport. We had one Republican and one Democratic candidate who are aviation friendly but more importantly, good for Steve and I and Glenndale. The Republican lost in the primaries, leaving the Republican candidate for the fall election as a good 'friend' of one of our enemies. We are down to one candidate, the Democrat, and this is a heavily Republican area. I'm nervous. If this other Republican gets in, we're going to have some real problems. He's going to remove a friend of ours from the aviation board, and replace him with a decided enemy of ours, and that's going to give us headaches for a long time to come. Welcome to Peyton Place...aren't all politics?? Ick and Ugh.

On a nice note, Diana from the AOPA message board who stopped in at our little runway in a Citabria on her way around the country left a really nice post on "Go Fly America", a website dedicated to getting pilots to land at every airport in the continental US. A neat idea. But here's what she had to say about Glenndale. :)

This evening, Kaylee stayed with Grandma & Grandpa for 2 hours while I ran back out to Kokomo. Justin and Beth and myself moved planes around, and he did the updates for the GPSs for us. The wind really picked up while we were there. Since I will now never get a comb through my hair, I'll just wait and wash it in the morning and not even try!

Seems like I'm forgetting something......I know what it was. Kaylee got an A+ plus 4 bonus points on her spelling test today. They're doing mostly 4-letter words. HA, I'd better rephrase that! They are doing works like "will", "with", "love", etc. (I told her last night to practice her spelling with me, and she said "I already KNOW them, Mommy." Oh great, the 'homework' wars begin already??) :)
