"Criminal Minds" Quote of the Day:
"What you pretend to be is what you really are. So be careful what you pretend to be."
It's a quote in a book written by Kurt Vonnegut (the same author of "Slaughterhouse Five".) I thought that was an excellent reminder. Be careful what you allow yourself to think, act, and be, or you will become it. Or maybe what you think you are pretending to be is really who you already actually are. Either way, it's food for thought.
Kind of like the Bible verse paraphrased "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he".
Actually, on a spin-off of that, you can act your way into changing. Something like that is even taught for business persons/salespersons. Act confident until you are. Actually smile when you answer the phone, because it shows in your voice. If you're feeling dumpy, act happy and more often than not you really will perk up. I'm not taking the time to hunt up references, but this is scientifically backed up. Well, and I use it to overcome that dreaded shyness that still grabs me sometimes, too. It works. So it makes sense that if you have the power to change your fortune and your mood by ACTING a different way, until it becomes real, that in similar fashion, what you dwell on and what mask you put on will eventually become...you. Or was really you all along. Like Vonnegut said. :)
I'm talking in circles now. I think I'll go to bed early tonight-I'm pooped!
