My Rant

Indiana passed the Daylight Savings Time law/bill/whatever it is. So tomorrow (Sunday), we have to "spring" our clocks "foward" and I hate it! Why couldn't they leave us alone? It's not like we'll suddenly have 25 hours in the day now that we practice DST. No, we get to mess with everybody's sleep schedule just to pretend like we gained something, pretend like time actually changed instead of everybody in an area deciding to move their clocks forward all at the same time and "make it so". Hey, maybe we can all add a day to the calendar too and pretend like we gained a whole day every year while we're at it. I know I could use more time. We're not saving (or in this case losing) time, we're rearranging it for no good logic I can find even after reading all their 'arguments'. Gee, it's now 9 pm instead of 8 pm. Well, now, that's so much better, thank you so very much! What a pointless beurocratic baloney thing. It's like the IRS giving back tax checks. Whee, you're giving us OUR OWN MONEY BACK that YOU got to hold all year! Wow, that's just great! Thanks! We didn't gain anything, it was ours all along and you just made us think we were getting some kind of bonus instead of us thinking about how you kept money that didn't belong to you for over a year before grudingly giving it back to people like a king granting a reprieve, IF they know how to ask for it properly. Oops, that's a different rant. Let me get back to my original rant.

This DST is also totally messing up my cross-country flights. You determine "zulu" time for flight plans by a fixed number, and it's always been adding five hours to military time here. No matter where I went, I just had to look at my watch and add 5 to the military time and I was done. Nothing else to memorize, didn't care about local time, it was perfect. Now that's going to be all changed, and something I've done for 16 years and know like the back of my hand is going to be all messed up. And THAT ticks me off too because I I'm too old to be stumbling around with what freaking time it is in zulu. Plus our computers may have issues with the time too, or so they claim. Sigh. I Liked Indiana being different on that, I have always thought DST was stupid. Bah HUMBUG.

It was a cluster too, there were fights all over the place trying to decide if we went with Eastern time zone or the Central time zone. Central would work for the parts of Indiana that are butted up against Chicago, and Eastern would work for the areas up against the Kentucky border. I think they ended up being worse off than before and having part of the state do one and part do the other. Which is worse than if they'd just left it alone in the first place! People griped about it being confusing before and that's why they wanted a change. They tried for years and it always failed and I was always happy that it failed. Now they get this, and it's more confusing than before! I want to go on strike and leave my clocks as they are, but that might get old to people if I'm always an hour late. Maybe I should just move to Arizona. I think they're the other state along with Hawaii that doesn't practice DST, aren't they? At least I'd be warmer there, too...

Rant concluded, at least until Sunday when I'm forced to move my clock against my will.
